The Ford Keyless Entry Keypad allows to unlock your vehicle, you guessed it, without using your keys. Turns out we use it a lot when going for a bike ride or skiing, because we like to pack light and getting stabbed by your keys when crashing is no fun. We’re no beach bums, but we heard surfers love it as well! It’s possible to order the Keyless Entry Keypad with a new vehicle, or to add one (or up to 8) later. After using the keypad on our Ford Transit for two years, we’re adding a second one on the passenger-side for more convenience. Here is how to install and program it!
These procedures apply to pre-2020 Ford Transit only.

If you have the newer style keypad (KB3Z-14A626-A), you must first change it to TYPE 1 communication:
If missing, any remote device will not work after the programmation.
2- Unlock the vehicle:
The system will chime to confirm you entered program mode. Some vehicles may require 8 times instead of 4.
4- Press any key of a FOB or IKT within 10 seconds of the previous step:
The system will chime to confirm the FOB or IKT has been programmed. Repeat this step to program other FOB and IKT.
The system will chime to confirm the RF Keypad has been programmed. Repeat this step to program other RF Keypads.
6- Turn ignition to RUN.
The system will exit program mode.
2- Press and hold 1/2 button for 1 second, within 5 seconds of the previous step:
The 9/0 button will flash twice to indicate that the RF Keypad is in programming mode.
Each digit must be entered within 5 seconds of the previous digit.
The vehicle doors will unlock-lock-unlock to confirm that your personal code has been programmed to the keypad and the 9/0 button will flash twice to confirm that the keypad has exited programming mode.
For proper adhesion, the mounting surface should be at least 60°F (15°C).
2- Pull the tape tabs off the keypad tape:
Each digit must be pressed within five seconds of each other.
2- To lock all doors, press 7/8 and 9/0 buttons simultaneously:

One keypad works on vehicles with the Passive Anti-Theft Security System, and the other keypad works on vehicles without the Passive Anti-Theft Security System. I know this because I bought the wrong keypad and was informed by the dealer when I took the van to the dealer to add the keyless entry keypad. I have the Passive Anti-Theft Security System. The keypad I bought that didn’t work with my van was KB3Z14A626B. Reply

Chris GrieveI have a 2021 Transit with a perimeter alarm and remote start that works though the FordPass app on my phone. I think Ford calls the perimeter alarm the Passive Anti-Theft System. I bought a keyless entry keypad thinking I could get my van in programming mode and add the keypad by turning the van on and off per the instructions above or the instructions in my owners manual. No matter what I did, I couldn’t get the van in programming mode using the ignition. If you read section in your owners manual about the Passive Anti-Theft System versus vehicles without the passive anti-theft system, you’ll discover you need to have the deal add the keyless keypad. My dealer in Kirkland, WA charges ~$120 for the keypad and $209 to add the keypad to the vans anti-theft system. If you’re ordering a new van with passive anti-theft/perimeter alarm/remote start, do yourself a favor, and order the van with the keyless entry keypad. Reply

Our Transit is a 2016, I don’t recall at exactly what year they changed the system sorry… ReplyWill this procedure work for a 2021 Ford Ranger? All I keep reading and hearing is that you have to have the dealer program the keypad. Has anyone tried it on a 2021 Ranger? Reply
